At various locations in the
U.K, the military have a number of low flying training areas (LFA's).
Once these areas have been pinpointed, the task of photographing
them begins. By climbing up the slopes and positioning yourself
on a ledge, you can lie in wait for the aircraft to appear.
Modern digital camera equipment is essential to capture jets
flying at up to 400mph through the valleys.
Most of the RAF squadrons &
the Royal Navy & Army have low flying training programmes & a
large variety of aircraft fly through. Flying timetables are
never published for obvious reasons, so you rarely know what is
going to arrive. You can have up to 20 seconds notice & you
usually have about 10 seconds or so to capture your photographs.
I have tried to show the sort of photographs that can be
acheived, taking into consideration that it is rarely warm on
the hilltops & you can often have driving rain or snow & 30 mph
winds, it is not a past time for the faint hearted. You often
meet other like minded souls on the slopes & many friendships
have been forged over the past few years & some of their work
can be found on the links page. |
